Inverted nipples

Although not very visible, the shape of the nipples can be a source of complexes and can influence one’s confidence and sexuality. An intervention is indicated for nipples that are too large or, on the contrary, retracted and / or turned inwards. These are malformations that can easily be corrected in order eliminate any feeling of discomfort and to regain an aesthetic breast in keeping with the patient’s sensuality.

An inverted or invaginated nipple is when the nipple projects inward rather than outward. Although rarely mentioned, inverted nipple affects thousands of women. Inversion can affect a single nipple or both. This condition develops during puberty or appears after breastfeeding. The presence of an inverted nipple does not endanger their health but can still be embarrassing. Dr. Gagnon performs inverted nipple surgery to restore the natural appearance of the breasts.

Are you a good candidate?

Nipple inversion is often caused by constriction of the milk ducts and fibrous tissue in the breast that pulls the nipple inward. The problem may be due to inflammation or the buildup of scar tissue after surgery.

Here are the reasons that may lead you to have inverted or inverted nipples corrected:

  • Your nipples are the site of recurrent irritation and / or infections;
  • You feel uncomfortable with the aesthetics of your breast due to the retraction.

Dr. Gagnon will achieve a full medical examination in order to determine if you are a good candidate for an inverted nipple corrective procedure.

DR ALAIN GAGNON AND HIS TEAM ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT RESTORING THEIR PATIENT’S NATURAL BEAUTY. THEY GUARANTEE PATIENTS A HIGH-QUALITY FOLLOW-UP, FROM THE FIRST CONSULTATION TO THE VERY END OF THE HEALING PROCESS. WE TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING IN ORDER FOR YOUR EXPERIENCE TO BE THE MOST ENJOYABLE POSSIBLE.

The goals of the procedure?

In most cases, a constitutional invagination acquired in adolescence is the cause of an invagination of the nipple. In other cases, it can appear after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or after an infection in the breast.

The goal of the invaginated nipple treatment is to reshape the nipple. It is therefore only morphological, because the intervention does not improve lactation.

Dr. Gagnon will ask you what your expectations are regarding inverted nipple surgery. Your breast, nipple and areola will then be examined to determine the amount of corrective surgery needed and how it may affect breastfeeding.

The intervention

Inverted nipple surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Gagnon’s operating room, which is modern and fully equipped and which meets high standards of comfort and hygiene. It usually lasts between thirty and sixty minutes. During the procedure, Dr. Gagnon makes a small incision at the edge of the areola and gently releases the fibers that pull the nipple inward. Absorbable stitches on the inside restore an external projection to the nipple, which adopts a classic shape. The nipple is then moved outwards and stitches are used to secure this position.

These procedures can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction, or a lifting.

The results

You will usually experience a rapid recovery which will last between ten and fourteen days. The sensation as well as the function of the nipples often remain intact after the procedure, but difficulties with breastfeeding cannot be ruled out. Although most patients can return to work immediately, Dr. Gagnon recommends avoiding strenuous physical activity until the nipples have fully recovered (about a month after surgery).
