You are an ideal candidate for blepharoplasty if:
- You have excess skin in the upper eyelid area
- The skin of the upper eyelids is loose and thus affects your vision.

What scars for

Upper eyelids : hidden in the furrow located halfway up the eyelid between the mobile part and the fixed part of the eyelid.
Lower eyelids : positioned 1 to 2 mm below the eyelashes. They can extend a little outside.
For the lower eyelids, in the event of isolated eye bags (without excess skin to be removed), a blepharoplasty is carried out trans-conjunctival, by making incisions inside the eyelids, and therefore leaving no visible scar on the skin.
In all cases, the scars are hidden in the natural folds, are very fine and become almost completely invisible.
Procedure
Before the surgery, a first consultation is carried out with your surgeon to do an ophthalmologic assessment and to know your history. This is the opportunity for him to eliminate certain contraindications, but also to know your needs and wishes.
On the day of the blepharoplasty, Dr. Gagnon adopts a technique of his own. Nevertheless, he will respect some basic steps:
- He makes skin incisions on the lower and upper eyelids. The scars are then hidden between the mobile and fixed part of the eyelid and at the level of the eyelashes.
- After these incisions made, he proceeds to removing the hernias of fat and excess of skin on the eyelids.
- The practitioner then stitches the incisions with very fine non-absorbable threads.
- If the surgeon only treats one bag under the eyes that does not hold saggy skin, the conjunctival route may be preferred. The scar is then hidden at the level of the inner lining of the eyelid.
The results
The first results are visible at the end of the surgery. The eyes appear more rested as the person looks teen years younger.
The result will be optimal three to six months after the surgery once the skin tissues regain their flexibility, and the edema and bruises subside. The definite result will be noticeable after one year once the scars will have completely faded away and will no longer be visible.
The benefit of blepharoplasty is definite for the bags under the eyes because they will never reappear after surgery. As for the saggy skin, the effects last approximately ten years before signs of age are visible again.
